William Alvin Witt

Parks and Recreation Director

William Alvin Witt was appointed as the Director of Parks and Recreation by the Board of County Commissioners in August of 2022.

Witt is known for his dedication to enhancing outdoor spaces and promoting active, healthy lifestyles within the community. He holds a Master’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Montana and a Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Management from Colorado State University. His expertise in sustainable park development and community engagement has made him an invaluable leader in Blaine County’s mission to provide exceptional recreational spaces and programs.

Since taking on his role, Witt has been committed to expanding and revitalizing Blaine County’s park system. One of his first projects involved the development of a master plan aimed at updating park facilities, expanding green spaces, and creating new recreational areas throughout the county. This initiative included extensive upgrades to playgrounds, athletic fields, and walking trails, as well as the addition of community gardens and nature preserves. Witt’s focus on creating accessible, family-friendly spaces has ensured that Blaine County residents of all ages have safe, enjoyable places to connect with nature and engage in physical activities.

Witt has also made it a priority to incorporate environmental sustainability into every aspect of park management. Under his direction, the Parks and Recreation Department has implemented eco-friendly practices such as native landscaping, water conservation measures, and solar-powered lighting in select park areas. Witt has advocated for the use of sustainable materials and energy-efficient designs in all new park facilities, reinforcing his commitment to preserving Blaine County’s natural beauty. His initiatives not only reduce the environmental impact of the parks system but also serve as educational models for residents on the importance of environmental stewardship.

In addition to his work on parks infrastructure, Witt has significantly expanded recreational programming to better serve the community. He has introduced a wide range of programs, from youth sports leagues and outdoor fitness classes to nature workshops and cultural festivals. His efforts to diversify programming have created opportunities for residents to connect, learn, and stay active throughout the year. Witt’s collaborative approach has involved partnerships with local schools, businesses, and nonprofits, enhancing the variety and accessibility of recreational options for the community.

Outside of his role as Director, Witt is actively involved in several national parks and recreation associations, where he shares his expertise and learns about emerging trends in park management. He also volunteers with local conservation groups and regularly leads community clean-up events and nature walks. Known for his passion, creativity, and hands-on leadership style, William Alvin Witt has made a lasting impact on Blaine County’s park system. Through his vision, the county’s parks and recreational spaces continue to grow as welcoming, sustainable environments that enrich the lives of residents and foster a deep connection to nature.
