Ellie Diaz Di'Angelo was appointed as the Director of Human Services by the Board of County Commissioners in January of 2024

With over fifteen years of experience in social work and human services management, Di'Angelo has a proven track record in leading transformative programs to support families, improve public health, and address housing insecurity. She holds a Master’s degree in Social Work from the University of Michigan and a Bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of California, Berkeley. Her expertise and passion for social equity have established her as a dynamic and compassionate leader within the county’s Human Services Department.

Upon stepping into her new role, Di'Angelo immediately prioritized improving the accessibility and responsiveness of county services to better meet the needs of Blaine County’s diverse community. She has initiated an extensive assessment of existing programs, identifying areas where resources can be more effectively allocated and where gaps in service may exist. This early work has included consulting with community stakeholders, nonprofit organizations, and county residents to better understand their challenges and needs. Di'Angelo’s dedication to inclusivity has already laid the groundwork for a department that operates with transparency and direct community engagement.

A passionate advocate for families and children, Di'Angelo has made enhancing family support services a focal point of her leadership. She has led efforts to expand Blaine County’s child welfare programs and to develop additional services for single-parent households and foster families. By collaborating with local schools and health providers, Di'Angelo is working to establish a network of support that assists families beyond immediate welfare needs, focusing on long-term stability and resilience. Her innovative approach to partnership-building has helped broaden the reach of the department, making it easier for families to access the resources they need in one cohesive system.

Di'Angelo’s tenure has also been marked by a proactive approach to addressing homelessness and housing insecurity in Blaine County. Recognizing the growing demand for affordable housing and emergency shelter, she has partnered with local housing authorities and regional developers to create a strategic plan for expanding shelter options and supportive housing. Di'Angelo is also advocating for initiatives that emphasize preventive measures, such as rental assistance programs and tenant education. Through her focus on sustainable solutions, she aims to reduce homelessness rates while fostering stability and security for the most vulnerable residents.

Outside of her role in Human Services, Di'Angelo is actively involved in the community, serving on the board of local nonprofits focused on youth development and mental health advocacy. She regularly volunteers with local food banks and is a member of the National Association of Social Workers. Known for her empathy, dedication, and vision, Ellie Diaz Di'Angelo has brought renewed energy and direction to the Human Services Department.
