Anna Desiree Watson was elected as County Sheriff as an unaffiliated candidate in November of 2024. 

Watson brings over 15 years of law enforcement experience to the role, having served in various capacities within Blaine County’s law enforcement system. She began her career as a deputy, where she earned a reputation for being approachable and dedicated to public safety. Her rise through the ranks was marked by her innovative leadership style and her ability to foster collaboration among her team. Before her election, Watson worked as a captain overseeing community policing programs, focusing on reducing crime through education and outreach.

A key priority for Sheriff Watson is modernizing the department to meet the needs of a growing and diverse population. She plans to implement updated training programs to emphasize de-escalation tactics, mental health awareness, and cultural competency. Additionally, she has proposed investing in technology to improve response times and ensure the department operates efficiently. Watson believes in maintaining an open dialogue with the community, hosting regular town hall meetings to address concerns and keep residents informed about the department's initiatives.

Watson's approach to leadership is deeply rooted in her understanding of Blaine County’s unique challenges and opportunities. She has lived in the area her entire life, which she credits for giving her a strong connection to the people she serves. Her upbringing in a rural community instilled in her a deep respect for hard work, accountability, and the importance of neighbors looking out for one another. These values are evident in her pledge to create a department that works in partnership with the public.

Sheriff Watson envisions a future where Blaine County is safer, more inclusive, and united in addressing issues such as drug abuse, property crime, and domestic violence. Her goal is to create a law enforcement agency that the public can rely on and trust.
