Alexis Melissa Martinez was appointed as the Director of the Technology Department by the Board of County Commissioners in January of 2023. 

She holds a Master’s degree in Information Systems from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science from the University of Washington. Known for her strategic mindset and commitment to innovation, Martinez is focused on advancing Blaine County’s technology capabilities to better serve its residents and departments.

Since taking on her role, Martinez has launched a county-wide digital reformation initiative to enhance connectivity, efficiency, and security across all departments. This initiative includes updating legacy systems, expanding cloud services, and optimizing data management practices. By introducing automated workflows and data-driven tools, Martinez has significantly improved the efficiency of day-to-day operations, enabling county departments to deliver faster and more reliable services to residents. Her efforts to create a cohesive, modern digital environment reflect her dedication to making technology a seamless part of Blaine County’s public service delivery.

Cybersecurity has been a central focus of Martinez's leadership, as she has implemented comprehensive strategies to protect the county’s digital infrastructure and data. She has led efforts to deploy advanced threat detection systems, employee cybersecurity training, and multi-factor authentication protocols. Through these initiatives, Martinez has strengthened the county’s defenses against cyber threats, ensuring that sensitive data remains secure and that the technology environment is resilient against modern risks. Her proactive approach has built a culture of cybersecurity awareness across Blaine County’s workforce, reinforcing the importance of safeguarding public information.

Martinez is also committed to increasing technology access and literacy within the community. She has established community tech workshops, where residents can learn about digital resources, online safety, and emerging technologies. Additionally, she has improved public access to online county services, making it easier for residents to access permits, records, and other resources through a user-friendly digital portal. Martinez's focus on accessibility underscores her vision of a tech-savvy Blaine County, where digital tools empower both residents and employees alike.

Outside of her role in Blaine County, Alexis Martinez is an active member of the Information Systems Audit and Control Association (ISACA) and regularly participates in technology leadership conferences. She also mentors young women in STEM through local programs, sharing her passion for technology and her commitment to creating opportunities in the tech field. Known for her technical acumen, strategic leadership, and dedication to community engagement, Alexis Melissa Martinez has transformed the Technology Department into a driving force for progress in Blaine County. Her work is ensuring that the county’s technology is secure, accessible, and equipped to meet the needs of the future.
